Sources come from three major sources: (a) The source list includes 142 sources from VR2206. Some of these sources will be scheduled using an SNR-based approach for bands A, B, C, and D. The remaining VR2206 sources are scheduled using an SNR-based approach interpolated from the S, X flux information. (b) The source list includes another 22 sources tested in VR2301 and 40 sources from other VGOS-OPS sessions. The VGOS-OPS sources are selected if they are observed in 3+ sessions with 85%+ success rate. These sources are scheduled with a fixed integration time of 30-seconds while testing that a minimum SNR can be reached. (c) The remaining 153 sources from the source list are ICRF3 sources with >250 mJy that have never been observed with VGSO so far. These sources are scheduled with 30-second integration time. During scheduling, the new ICRF3 non-defining only have a weight of 0.75 to reduce the number of scans to new sources. In contrast, the new ICRF3 defining sources have a weight of 10.0 to to emphasize observations of theses sources. From the source list, a total of 177 sources have been scheduled. 98 sources from (a) and (b) (total of 1942 scans and 27712 obs) and 79 from group (c) (1301 scans 23852 obs). All northern hemisphere sources are observed with at least 4 independent stations, while 3 are sufficient for southern hemisphere sources. Note that this does not apply to the 947 fillin-mode scans which can be scheduled with 2+ stations. Northern hemisphere sources should be observed at least 10 times and maximum 25 times (not considering fillin-mode scans). For southern hemisphere sources, the minimum number was reduced to 5. Scans are spread over time to maximize UV-coverage. Calibrator scans are scheduled every hours. They are observed with fixed 60-second integration time and selected mostly based on SNR (but also visibility). Calibration scans allow subnetting to ensure that most stations are scheduled within each calibration block. This is especially important for Hb and Ke. Similar to the last 2022 VR sessions, custom sky-coverage parameters are defined per station as listed in the operation notes. There have been custom implementation in VieSched++ to help seperating Oe and Ow observations. First, Oe and Ow are only seen as one independent station (e.g. for the min #station requirement). Next, in case of subnetting scans where both sources are visible by Oe and Ow, only the case where the observe different sources is considered. Finally, in case there is a subnetting scan where Oe and Ow observe different sources, the score of this subnetting scan is increased by a factor of two. This means, that it is twice as likely to be scheduled. Still, from the 1675/1698 scans of Oe/Ow, 1108 are observed together. ###################### ## TECHNICAL NOTES: ## ###################### 1. For stations that eTransfer data, please send the 60-s calibration scans first (if possible but not strictly necessary) followed by the rest of the scans. This will help the correlator set up the session and evaluate station performance. 3. At the correlator, please process using the method that minimizes lost data at the end of an integration. This is important since a large fraction of integrations will only be 7-s in duration. 4. All Mk6 stations, please use 2 modules. 5. Please transmit full logs from all capable stations 6. Please transmit azel files from all capable stations. 7. Please run (on the Mk6) the following commands at all Mk6 stations: - dboss s 1 before the session. - boss s 4 after the session. 8. Please take SEFDs using all channels at start and finish. 9. There are a few small changes in the usual $PROCs. At Gs, Mg, K2 and Yj, 'source' and 'track' commands have been commented out in 'preob' to enable 2-s 'preobs'. At Ws, 'bread' has been commented out of 'midob' to enable 5-s integrations. At Wf, the inital delay at the start of 'midob' has been reduced from 4-s to 2-s, i.e !+4 to !+2. This may increase the number of false late on source detections at Wf but it is required to shrink the 'midob' to <5-s to enable 5-s integrations. The Wf $PROC has been copied from the vo2174 sked file so vr2204 should use the most recent version of the Wf $PROC.
