Gipson, NVI, Inc./GSFC =========================================================== PURPOSE AND GENERAL NOTES =========================================================== GAIA proposal - Observation of : - 1 source in category 1 and 2 sources in category 2 with bad position uncertainties, - 1 source in category 1 and 4 sources in category 2 that were poorly observed in the past 24 months, - 1 source in category 3 that was not observed in the past 12 months, - 24 sources in category 4. The Laboratory d'Astrophysique de Bordeaux (LAB) subnmitted a proposal to observe 195 ICRF2 transfer sources in the context of the GAIA mission. Those 195 sources are divided in four categories. The forth category contains 24 sources which are not part of the IVS monitoring program and which have a poor position accuracy. The goal in observing them in R&D sessions is to improve their position accuracy. We noticed one source in category 1 and two sources in category 2 have position uncertainties between 100 and 200 microas. They will be observed in this session to improve their uncertainties. Also, five sources in categories 1 and 2 have been poorly observed in the past 24 months, and one source in category 3 was not observed at all in the past 12 months. This is probably due to the fact these sources are weak or they are in the Southern hemisphere. They will be observed in this session. In RD1504, we were able to schedule these 33 sources of the GAIA proposal in the astro mode of sked. Forty of the good geodetic sources are used as base of a stable sources set and uniform sky coverage. We use the sked flux catalog except for three sources.
