Session Notes for RD0606 session: rd0606 Prepared by J. Gipson The purpose of this R&D session is to test an alternative observing scheme for the intensives. There are two independent networks: Network1: Kk-Wz Network2: Ny-On-Sv-Ts-Wf The Kk-Wz baseline is scheduled as a series of 24 hour intensives. The first intensive was scheduled by Merri Sue Carter of USNO using the standard intensive frequency sequqence and observing startegy. The remaining intensives were scheduled using the R1 frequency sequence. Merri Sue Carter and John Gipson alternated scheduling these. Merri Sue scheduled the ones starting on even hours: 20:00, 22:00, etc. She used the standard intensive observing strategy. John Gipson scheduled the intensives on the odd hours: 19:00, 21:00, etc, using two new features of sked: 1.) Best-N, which selects the best sources for a session based on baseline geometry, and 2.) Covariance optimization, which optimizes a schedule for a given quantity. The first of the second set of intensives starts at 19:04 to give the station operators time to switch disks etc. The average (predicted) formal error for UT1 for the intesives scheduled by Carter were 9.1 microseconds. For those scheduled by Gipson 7.5 microseconds. This is an improvement of 20%. The 5-station network was scheduled to run a standard geodetic schedule. The 23 intensives and the 5-station session were merged into a single file, rd0606.skd. The analyis of this session will look at the following issues: 1.) Are the actual formal errors of the Carter sessions better or worse than the Gipson. 2.) Is one set of intensives more robust than the other? 3.) How do the EOP estimates from the intensives compare with the 24 hour session. The details of the sesssion follow. for the session purpose. =========================================================== Parameter values for experiment Rd0606 Experiment description: IVS-R1 Scheduler: NASA Correlator: HAYSTACK Nominal start: 2006-235-18:00:00 Nominal end: 2006-236-18:20:00 Current yyyyddd: 2006235 (2006.64) ( 13971 MJD, WED. 23AUG.)
